Factory Quiz

Tuesday 10 June

This June, in celebration of Pride Month, Factory International welcomes a bold and brilliant quiz night like no other. Curated by IAP:MCR, this special edition of the monthly quiz night is part of PROTEST!—a dynamic two-year creative project exploring the legacy of Section 28 and the wider history of Queer resistance in the UK.

At the heart of this event is celebration, remembrance, and resistance—using joy, community, and trivia to honour the activists and movements that paved the way. Whether you’re a long-time quiz champ or just in it for the vibes, this night invites everyone to gather, connect, and reflect.

Your quizmaster for the evening is Louise Wallwein MBE—a powerhouse poet, performer and activist with deep roots in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Louise was on the frontlines at the iconic 1988 anti-Section 28 demonstration in Manchester, and brings lived experience, sharp humour, and poetic spirit to every mic she touches. Expect a quiz that’s as entertaining as it is empowering, packed with questions that challenge, uplift and inspire.

The quiz will feature rounds on Queer culture, protest history, LGBTQ+ icons, pop culture, and the hidden stories of resilience and rebellion that shaped our past and future. It’s your chance to test what you know—and maybe learn a thing or two along the way.

In addition to the quiz, there will be a pop-up display that traces the history and impact of Section 28—the devastating legislation introduced in 1988 that banned the “promotion of homosexuality” in schools and public institutions. The display offers space to reflect on the silencing of Queer voices, and the powerful acts of defiance that rose in response—from zines and marches to drag, theatre and grassroots organising.
